COVID cases reach all time high in Quesnel

Quesnel Cariboo Observer - 10/30/2021

COVID-19 reached new heights in Quesnel in the previous reporting week.

Nearly 100 cases were detected in the Quesnel local health area from Oct. 17 - 23, according to the BC Centre for Disease Control. The rate of cases per day when adjusted for population was the fifth highest in the province last week.

Only Nisga'a, Burns Lake, Peace River South and Enderby had a higher rate of COVID-19 in their communities.

Only 76 per cent of eligible people in Quesnel have at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Under 70 per cent have received their second dose, and the better immunity that comes with it.

Nearly all of Northern Health is still averaging more than 20 cases per 100,000 people per day.

Cases have had an effect on local heath care as well, with Northern Health announcing six new cases were detected related to an outbreak at GR Baker Memorial Hospital.
