Where in Galesburg do you need to wear a mask? Here's a list of places

Aug. 7—Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker on Wednesday issued orders requiring masks in public and private schools for the start of the fall semester for students from preschool through 12th grade.

The same mandate applies for all nursing homes, and comes as cases are on the rise throughout the state.

What are others around Galesburg doing in response to recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance that recommends everyone, vaccinated or not, return to masking?

Check with individual businesses or places of worship for their policies. But here's what you can expect by way of masking rules in places around Galesburg open to the public.

Two Galesburg grocery stores contacted said that masking was optional. Masks are not required at either the Save A Lot grocery store, or the HiLo grocery store.

Hy-Vee is mandating masks for the unvaccinated, while those vaccinated still have an option. It's the same for Aldi grocery stores.

At Walmart, staff are again wearing masks, and they are asking customers to follow suit. A sign outside the store outlines the recent CDC order regarding masking.

The Galesburg Public Library is again requiring that everyone wear masks inside the buildings, regardless of vaccination status.

Transportation

Masks are required when taking Amtrak trains in or out of town. Federal law and Amtrak policy requires all customers and employees to wear a mask or covering that fully covers their entire mouth and nose.

The same is the case for Galesburg Transit. Riders of Galesburg buses must also wear a mask.

Everyone entering Galesburg City Hall must wear a mask, This goes for the public and city employees. City employees do not have to wear a mask when outdoors.

The Knox County Courthouse is not currently requiring people wear masks.
