Picking up the pieces

Richmond Register - 3/25/2021

Mar. 24—Madison County government officials are singing their road crew and employees' praises as they continue to clear limbs and tree debris that fell during a most recent ice storm and flood.

According to Scott Shepherd at the road department, he and his crews have cleared 224 tree pickups in eight days.

Overall, there are 672 requests in total called into the county for broken limbs to be removed.

"Things have gone really well, but we want to remind everyone to be patient," Shepherd told the Madison County Fiscal Court.

He stated the IT team with the county had helped create a system that was helpful to the crew so that locations are mapped, and when they pick up a specific area, it goes off of the map.

"We will get things picked up and cleaned up in a timely manner," he said.

According to Judge Reagan Taylor, the pickup will run throughout April. He reminded the public this is only for tree limbs and that there is no central drop-off location for the limbs.

"We will be there to pick them up," Taylor assured. "I really want to thank our road crews for their due diligence and how hard they have been working. You know, our county is a big county, and when we take on projects like this, it takes time. Our crews have done a great job. We just ask that you be patient."

Magistrate Paul Reynolds said he had seen many posts on Facebook of constituents that expressed their gratitude for the project.

The first round was available for scheduling beginning Feb. 25 through Mar. 12. For those who schedule during this time, the pick up of debris will run from Mar. 15 through Apr. 1. However, the debris must be at the curbside on the start date of Mar. 15, in case residents are the first to be picked up in their round.

The second round of scheduling dates will begin Mar. 13 throughout Mar. 31, with pickup dates beginning Apr. 5 through Apr. 15. The date the limbs need to be set out is Apr. 5.

Lastly, the final round will be scheduled for Apr. 1 through Apr. 15, with pickup starting on Apr. 19 and running through Apr. 29. Debris should be placed by the curb by Apr. 19.

Pickup appointments will be taken until Apr. 15, 2021, either via the County's website at www.madisoncountyky.us or by contacting the Road Department's Solid Waste Division at 859-624-4709.
