Hesperia mother, boyfriend arrested on suspicion of child abuse against woman's 4-year-old son

Daily Press - 8/21/2021

Aug. 22—A Hesperia mother and her live-in boyfriend are out on bail after they were arrested on suspicion of abusing the woman's 4-year-old son, authorities said.

On Friday, the San Bernardino County Superior Court system showed no charges filed against Lacey Golding, 31, of Hesperia, and Brent Hartwig, 36, of Riverside.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department identified the couple in a Friday afternoon press release.

On Aug. 5, sheriff's investigators at the Hesperia station contacted the department's Specialized Investigations Division, Crimes Against Children Detail after they discovered a boy who they suspected had been physically abused. They noted that the boy appeared severely malnourished.

Sheriff's officials, who did not return messages left Friday, did not say how Hesperia investigators came across the boy.

He was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center, where he was evaluated and admitted. Hospital staff later ruled his injuries consistent with what sheriff's officials called "non-accidental trauma child abuse."

Following an investigation that included multiple agencies, sheriff's officials arrested Golding on Aug. 5 at the Loma Linda station and booked her into the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino.

The following day, Golding posted bail of $100,000 and was released from custody.

Officials arrested Hartwig on Thursday in Riverside and booked him into the Central Detention Center, booking records show. He posted bail of $50,000 on Friday.

Anyone with information related to this case is asked by the sheriff's department to contact the Specialized Investigation Division, Crimes Against Children Detail, Deputy V. Quezada at 909-387-3615.
