COVID outbreak reported at Tabor College

The Hutchinson News - 9/23/2021

Sep. 23—HILLSBORO — Tabor College has reported an outbreak of COVID-19 on campus on the eve of the inauguration of the college's new president.

A total of 18 cases were confirmed on campus as of Thursday morning, a college news release stated.

"Tabor College has followed its operational protocols of testing students with symptoms, isolating students who test positive, and conducting contact tracing and quarantining students who have been in contact with the positive cases," the release stated.

Isolated students are asked to do so at home. Those who are not able to isolate at home are required to isolate in college housing.

In preparation for Friday's inauguration of President David S. Janzen, the college has implemented requirements for vaccinations or mandatory testing for any student participating in the dinner, ceremony, or reception.

Those students will be required to show a vaccination card or be tested the morning of the event.

"As has been stated numerous times this semester, I strongly encourage you to get vaccinated if you have not already," stated Janzen, who was hired in July. "It protects you and is a blessing to others. Our prayers are with those who have COVID, that they would recover quickly, and with our entire community that we would love each other as Christ loves us."

Tabor College is in regular communication with the Marion County Health Department, the release stated, and will announce any significant further changes at the appropriate time.

Janzen, a 1990 Tabor graduate, was selected by the college as its new president in May. He succeeds Jules Glanzer, who served as president for 13 years.
