INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, Aug. 20 (TNSeve) -- The Indiana State Medical Association has scheduled a webinar on Oct. 14, 2021, entitled "Buprenorphine in Opioid Use Disorder and Pain":

Buprenorphine is used in medication-assisted treatment of opioid use disorder. Due to its unique properties, its mechanism of action is often misunderstood. In this webinar, Dmitri M. Arbuck, MD, of the Indiana Polyclinic, will explain how buprenorphine works, how it is used and its benefits and pitfalls.

Objectives:

At the end of this webinar, attendees will be able to:

* Understand the main differences between the most frequently used opioids and buprenorphine.

* Explain the principles of buprenorphine prescribing.

* Develop insight into the basics of pharmacogenomics in relation to opioids.

* Explain ways to diminish perioperative opioid use.

The 1-hour event features speaker Dmitry M. Arbuck, MD

Dmitry M. Arbuck, MD, was born in Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia. He earned his medical degree at Yaroslavl State Medical School in Yaroslavl, Russia, where he also completed his internship in pediatrics and his residency in psychiatry. In the United States, he completed his psychiatry residency at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis.

Shortly after his training, Dr. Arbuck formed a pain management clinic that grew into the multidisciplinary facility know as Indiana Polyclinic (IPC). IPC specializes in treating the most difficult pain and psychiatric conditions that may have become resistant to treatment.

Dr. Arbuck has been certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (2000), the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons (2016) and the former American Academy of Pain Management (2003). He practices psychiatry and pain medicine as dual specialties.
