Buffalo man arraigned on first-degree attempted rape charge

Apr. 9—A Buffalo man was arraigned Tuesday before Buffalo City Court Judge Gary Wilson on charges of first-degree attempted rape, first-degree sexual abuse and obstruction of breathing, the Erie County District Attorney's Office announced.

Prosecutors said that about 2 p.m. Monday, 22-year-old Hunter Saxbury allegedly attempted to force the victim to have sex with him and subjected the victim to unwanted to sexual contact at an undisclosed location in the City of Buffalo. Both the alleged assailant and the victim are known to each other, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Saxbury is scheduled to return to court Friday to appear before City Court Judge Carrie Phillips for a felony hearing. Prosecutors requested that he be held without bail, but the court set bail at $75,000 cash. A temporary order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim.

Acting District Attorney Michael J. Keane commended the Buffalo Police Department for its work on the investigation, which remains in progress.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Alexander J. Trunfio of the Special Victims/Domestic Violence Bureau. — Harold McNeil
