Judge sentences Sacramento County man to more than 500 years for child sexual abuse

Sacramento Bee - 3/30/2024

A Sacramento County Superior Court judge sentenced a local man found guilty of sexually abusing several children under age 14 to 580 years to life in prison.

Kirby Torres, 38, who has been in custody since 2020, will serve at least 20 years of that sentence before becoming eligible for consideration of elder parole, according to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office.

Last October, a jury found Torres guilty of five counts of committing lewd acts on a child under the age of 14 with force or fear and 19 counts of committing lewd acts on a child under 14 years old.

“The jury also found true that Torres took advantage of a position of trust; all seven victims were particularly vulnerable at the time of the offenses; the crimes involved great violence or acts disclosing a high degree of cruelty, viciousness, or callousness; the crimes involved planning, sophistication and professionalism; and Torres used obscene or harmful material to encourage the children to participate in the sex acts,” according to the district attorney’s office.

Between 2010 and 2020, Torres sexually assaulted seven children, boys and girls, ages 3-13, according to the district attorney’s office. In 2020, a babysitter reported overhearing one of the children discussing sexual conduct with Torres. Police investigated and arrested Torres.
