After 11-month-old dies from fentanyl, her father says what hurts is ‘I was the cause of it’: report

Patriot-News - 10/21/2021

An Allegheny County father is blaming himself after his 11-month-old daughter died from ingesting fentanyl, according to multiple reports.

WTAE reports that the Allegheny Medical Examiner’s office said Mi’Orah Coleman was found unresponsive at a Pittsburgh home on Goe Avenue on August 19.

The medical examiner’s report said Coleman was taken to UPMC Children’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, WTAE reported. Her death was later ruled due to fentanyl toxicity.

KDKA reports that no one has been charged with her death, but that an investigation is ongoing.

The baby’s father spoke to both outlets, telling two reporters that he was responsible for his daughter’s death.

“Something I gotta live with for the rest of my life,” Coleman told WTAE. “I got to make this up to my family. I cry every day about her. She was my world and knowing that I was the cause of it really hurts.”

In speaking with KDKA, Coleman shared that he used to snort fentanyl, but since his daughter died, he has been in treatment. He said he thinks his daughter got ahold of the straw he used for snorting the drug.

KDKA also spoke with a neighbor, who said Coleman told her the baby choked on mashed potatoes, but she was suspicious. The neighbor said the family “hasn’t been the same since the baby died.”
