Canton resident wins $20K, donates $10K to Domestic Violence Project

Canton Repository - 9/23/2021

Canton resident Sharon Rivera is the September winner of TCC's Get10Give10 sweepstakes.

Rivera received $10,000 during a check presentation in conjunction with Verizon authorized retailer TCC's North Canton store.

TCC customers who enter the sweepstakes can win $10,000 to keep, and TCC Gives donates $10,000 to a nonprofit of their choice. Rivera chose the Domestic Violence Project Inc. (DVPI) to receive the additional $10,000 donation on her behalf.

"I was excited to find out I won $10,000 from TCC, and I will be putting it toward some trips I have planned," Rivera said via a news release. "What means even more to me, though, is that I was able to choose an organization to receive an additional $10,000. I was amazed by DPVI's facility and to hear about everything they do for victims and their children. As a survivor of domestic violence, I was happy to give the donation to DVPI for such an important cause."

"We are so happy for Sharon. We feel so privileged that we were able to meet her and that she chose our organization," said Ashley Huprich, development and community relations director at the Domestic Violence Project. "Organizations like ours are unfortunately receiving huge funding cuts right now, so Sharon's generosity came at such a perfect time. This donation will impact so many people we serve."

Since 1978, DVPI has offered safety, compassion, hope and healing to victims of domestic violence and their families in Stark County and surrounding communities.
