LAS CRUCES - A grand jury indicted a Las Cruces man last week accused in the sexual assault of a girl under 13 years old.

Alan Dodson, 47, faces six felony counts, including two counts of criminal sexual penetration in the first degree and four counts of criminal sexual contact with an unclothed minor in the 2nd degree.

After the Third Judicial District Attorney's Office requested Dodson be held in jail before his trial, District Judge Richard Jacquez granted Dodson a $10,000 surety bond in June.

The six charges stem from a series of alleged incidents which police say occurred over the span of a year.

Police said that an ex-girlfriend of Dodson's contacted authorities in May after the ex-girlfriend's daughter came forward with assault allegations. The same woman also discovered a pornographic video of Dodson and her daughter on Dodson's phone, police said.

According to court documents, the girl told police Dodson babysat her and her siblings while their mother worked. The girl told police that Dodson sexually assaulted her while her mother was away at work for over a year, including an alleged incident on Christmas day.

Dodson was scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 2.
